Helloooo!!!
This past week was the beginning of the open house!!!! YAY!!!!! It has been so much fun! I've seen so many miracles already. What we do as sister missionaries is we welcome people and show them the video before they go on their tour. OR we are in the reception tent and we get to answer peoples questions. It is seriously the best. I'm so glad that I chose to go on my mission later so that I could experience the temple open house.
Miracle number one: Sister Lowry and I were in the tent answering questions. It was getting late and we were about to go home. All of a sudden I saw a couple looking at the statue of Christ. The spirit told me to go talk to them. I chickened out because I didn't know how to approach them but the spirit kept telling me to. Finally I went over to talk to them and I asked them how their tour went. They said they loved it and they thought it was beautiful. They had some questions for me and I asked them if they saw the video you're supposed to watch before you go on your tour. They told me they had not and they said that they actually just went through the front door of the temple. I started laughing. Apparently they had gone through the front door and the cops had escorted them out. They said just by being in their for that short time they felt the spirit. They told me they wanted to go to this church and go on a tour. They gave me their information and I directed them on how to sign up for an actual tour. We are keeping in contact and hopefully we can go through their tour with them.
Miracle number two: On Saturday night there was a wine festival going on down the street from us. We decided this would be the best time to go invite people to the open house. We made a sign that said,"Temple open house. Questions??" We also put a picture of the temple on it. We had so many people come up to us and ask us questions about how they could go on a tour and questions about our church and temples. It was such a great opportunity. We met so many people. Hopefully this will help get more people to the open house.
Okay now some funny stuff. So there have been protesters outside the temple all week. Personally I love it. I think it's funny. They are the same group that published the 12 page anti-Mormon paper. They are handing it out to everyone who goes into the temple. On Friday that was the first day of the open house. Lots of anti people went into the reception tent and talked to the missionaries to try and get them fired up. One Sister had only been out a few weeks and started crying. I was standing outside welcoming people and I saw an older man with a missionary name tag cross the street from the anti booth to the temple. I thought it was weird and he started talking to people on the temple grounds. I realized that he was an anti dressed up as a missionary. I got one of the security guards and he was able to escort him off. On Saturday there also were 34 women standing in front of the temple dressed as pioneers and a man dressed up as Joseph Smith. A big sign read, "Come meet Joseph Smiths 34 wives." So to say the least it has been crazy. There have been lots of other things that they have done as well.
I know that this church is true. No matter how many people are against us that does not change what I believe. I know we have a Savior who loves us and wants us to be kind to everyone. I know Joseph Smith was a true prophet. I know we have a Father in Heaven who listens and answers our prayers. A missionary I was talking to said, "I'd rather be for something than against something." I LOVE THE GOSPEL!!!!
Love you all! Have a great week!
Love,
ME
